Palmyra Print Shop

Palmyra Print Shop

This is a close up look at the Palmyra Print Shop, a museum, which is the newest addition to the Historic Palmyra collection, and features examples of some of the finest printing equipment ever made. In 1856, John M. Jones arrived in Palmyra and changed the face of the printing industry. For 63 years, Jones' company produced printing presses and cutters for export around the world via the Erie Canal. Displays include Jones' equipment marketed under the names: Peerless, Ben Franklin, Global, Star, Jobber, and Lightning. The Print Shop also features Courier Journal artifacts from Palmyra's hometown 1838 newspaper. You will witness the history of printing from 1855 through 1970. It is connected to the the Wm. Phelps Store. Located at 140 Market Street in Palmyra, NY.

Marshfield Sun Printing Museum

Marshfield Sun Printing Museum

River View! My second visit to this amazingly preserved one-man Newspaer Museum in Coos Bay Oregon. the Marsfield Sun ran from 1891- to 1944
This five-sided building contains all of the type cases and printing equipment used by The Marshfield Sun Newspaper, a weekly that began publication in 1891 and continued until 1944. Lots of letterpress equipment and such, but my favorite is the hot led machine that would turn paper molds into type molds. Amazing. Had the same tour guide, a self proclaimed, Printer's Devil, Ken Johnson who showed me around last visit.
